Every day I listen to Governor Cuomo address the public. Today he started off with a great story about his daughter who recently graduated from school. In honor of her graduation, her Dad told her he was going to give her money. She responded by telling him she did not want money. She wanted something from him, her Dad. ‘With money,’ he said, ‘you could buy whatever you want.’ She responded, ‘I want something of yours. That’s more meaningful.’ So Governor Cuomo have his daughter his watch that was gifted to him by his parents. Why this story? Because giving a hand-stitched needlepoint gift is more meaningful than giving something you can buy. It is something from you. It is a part of you and it carries way more meaning than a store bought gift.

Now is a time when we all embrace meaning in the small gestures. We are only a small blue dot on this planet and if we can make a lasting impression by giving a part of us to someone we respect, admire and love then what better gift can we ever give?
